Rooney’s dressing room speech

An emotional Wayne Rooney made a speech to his England team-mates in their dressing room at Wembley after he scored his second goal of the week against Switzerland; but most notably, his 50th in a Three Lions shirt. Having equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s 49 goals for England against San Marino on Friday night, Wayne overtook him and hit half a century with a penalty against Switzerland to ensure that his side maintained their 100% record in qualification matches for Euro 2016, which takes place in France next year.

Here’s the speech, courtesy of FATV on Youtube:

The England captain will be hoping to move further and further away from the likes of Charlton and Gary Lineker, who retired on 48 goals. He’s got years left in the tank so his next target will likely be 60 goals for his country, which could come with a strong tournament from him next year. The Three Lions have already qualified, alongside Gareth Bale’s Wales.
