Cantona will offer housing to migrants

Former Manchester United striker and talisman Eric Cantona is more than just a mercurial frontman and Kronenbourg connoisseur – he’s also a charitable, hospitable gentleman.

When he’s not swimming the channel to get a taste of lager, Cantona’s offering refuge for migrants travelling to France to escape persecution, according to the Associated Press.

With 24,000 migrants to be allowed to seek refuge in France in the next two years as they flee the Middle East and North Africa to escape the terror grip of militant group ISIS, Eric Cantona has offered his services.

Speaking to France Inter radio on Tuesday, Cantona said that he is in discussion with Marseille authorities so that he can provide a house there to the incoming migrants.

He has a brilliant reason for this generosity, too. He said: “my maternal grandparents went through this because they were Spanish Republicans who fled Franco’s regime.”

His offer to house the migrants will be over a period of at least two years and includes the provision of food by the ex-United man.
