After Manchester City’s 4-1 defeat against Tottenham earlier, the onus was on Manchester United to take advantage and go top of the Premier League by beating bottom of the table Sunderland.
And the Reds did not disappoint, cruising to a comfortable 3-0 victory over the Black Cats at Old Trafford. Memphis Depay opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, his first Premier League goal for United. Captain Wayne Rooney added the second, and Juan Mata rounded off the scoreline with one in second-half stoppage time.
