Manchester United completed their final training session today, ahead of their Champion’s League clash with Wolfsburg tomorrow. However four key players were forced to miss the session through injury.
Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo both sat out the training session, with the youngsters Josh Harrop, Donald Love and James Weir drafted in to fill in for the injured quartet. Louis van Gaal confirmed in his pre-match press conference today that while Carrick would certainly miss the Wolfsburg match tomorrow, we would have to “wait and see” in terms of Herrera and Valencia. There was no update in regards to Marcos Rojo’s situation.
While none of the players can be regarded as having played a major part in the season so far, Rojo was expected to play a key role due to Luke Shaw’s long-term injury. With Rojo injured, it would be expected that Darmian could fill in at left back with Valencia filling in on the right. Although this injury to Valencia leaves United light at the back and certainly gives van Gaal a big decision to make. He could choose to use a youth player or he could possibly risk rushing Phil Jones back from his injury.
There was some good news for van Gaal and his staff however as Irish international, Paddy McNair has returned to training following the injury he sustained at Southampton.
