Manchester United travelled to Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon to face Everton, with a poor recent record against the Toffees. The last three visits there had seen United leave with 3-0, 2-0 and 1-0 defeats. However, van Gaal’s red army were able to adjust their fortunes on the blue half of Merseyside with a composed 3-0 win to keep the pressure on rivals Manchester City ahead of next week’s Manchester derby.
Two first-half goals from midfield were followed up just after the hour mark as Wayne Rooney netted against his old club – it’s a much-needed win as United were embarrassed at the Emirates before the international break and needed something to build on before Wednesday night’s trip to CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.
