Morgan Schneiderlin expressed mixed emotions after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow tonight in the Champions League.
Seydou Doumbia gave the Army Men the lead in the first half, slotting home the rebound after David de Gea had saved Roman Eremenko’s penalty, but the Reds fought back in ice-cold conditions in the Russian capital, with Anthony Martial giving United a share of the spoils.
The result leaves United second in Group B, with Wolfsburg topping the group after beating PSV Eindhoven 2-0 in the other game.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Schneiderlin said:
It’s a bit of mixed feelings. With the game we wanted to take the three points but in the Champions League it is a marathon, not just about one game.
It is difficult because we wanted to come here to win, but the most important thing was to not leave here without any points.
The French midfielder also felt that if the Reds had managed to create more chances, they would have had a chance at securing all three points.

I think in the first half we had the better possession of the ball. We had good possession, but we could not create many chances. In the second half the movement was a little bit better, but maybe Moscow were a bit more tired.
We kept the ball, and we made them move a lot which meant we had more chances in the second half. We could have played a bit more direct sometimes, but we know that we can improve because we need to create a bit more.
Finally, Schneiderlin praised Martial for bouncing back from his mistake earlier in the game. with the striker having given away the penalty that led to CSKA’s goal.
[Martial’s goal] changed the dynamic of the game. He didn’t let his head down because that [conceding a penalty] can happen to anyone. Anthony scored a great goal and after that we pushed on but we could not score the second goal which was a shame.
