Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is keyed up at the prospect of playing in his first derby game against Manchester City this weekend.
The World Cup winner believes that the City of Manchester is very lucky to have two clubs who are currently prospering in the Premier League and Europe.
Speaking to United Review, the club’s official matchday programme,
I think it is something very special and we should be very happy that we have two big clubs in one city that are also playing in the Champions League.
Although the 31-year-old has won almost everything in the game, he has only managed two derby appearances and views this as his chance to make up for lost time.
Since 2005, Bayern Munich only managed to play 1860 Munich once in a competitive match due to their rivals being relegated from the Bundesliga.
The other team at 1860 Munich didn’t play so well! We were always looking for a derby but it was sadly not possible. Here, we can play lots of derbies and I am very happy about that.
The same fixture last year saw United avenge their 1-0 away defeat at Man City with a comfortable 4-2 victory.
Schweinsteiger will be hoping for a raucous atmosphere at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Victory for Manchester United will see them overtake their rivals in the Premier League table by a single point.
