Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has his eyes firmly set on winning the Premier League come the end of the season – but knows it won’t be easy.
United’s last Premier League title came in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season with the club, when the Red Devils won cruised to an eleven-point lead by the end of the season, rounded off with a 5-5 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion.
Mata joined the club in January 2014, arriving in a helicopter under David Moyes’ torpid reign as manager. He’s tasted trophy success with Chelsea but is yet to lift silverware as a United player – unless the International Champions Cup is counted (which it really doesn’t deserve to be).
Speaking after this weekend’s 2-0 win over West Brom at Old Trafford, the Spanish international said:
“Let’s see about that one [winning the league], as there are still too many games until the end of the season. We have to take it game by game.”

“It was a difficult month for us with some tough games, but I think we are still in the position to do it.
Manchester United fans may well see their title chances in the same light as Mata; following Manchester City’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa this weekend, the Red Devils are well-poised to thoroughly challenge for the title – but caution has to be the word when it comes to getting excited, especially in November.
