Valencia has operation on foot

Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia has had surgery on his injured left foot.

The Ecuadorian underwent the procedure yesterday, after picking up the injury in the final moments of the Manchester Derby last month. He subsequently missed the next four United games, and manager Louis van Gaal had hinted that the 30-year old would require surgery on Friday, stating:

Valencia is injured. I think he shall be operated on but I have to wait and see if that is true.

Valencia has mostly been playing at right-back this season, competing with Matteo Darmian for a regular spot in the side. While the Ecuadorian international was on the sidelines, Ashley Young has been filling in on the right-hand side of defence, starting in the wins over CSKA Moscow and West Brom, although Darmian is expected to return for the game against Watford after the international break after serving a suspension against the Baggies for picking up five yellow cards.

Valencia has made ten appearances for the Reds this season, including five as a substitute, and it is unclear when the Ecuadorian international will return to action.

However, the 30-year old posted this picture on his Twitter account, stating that he is now focused on recovering from his injury:
