Most people are settled with the idea that the next manager of Manchester United, come the end of Louis van Gaal’s contract in 2017, will either be Pep Guardiola or Ryan Giggs… but nothing is set in stone yet.
According to La Reppublica (via Football Italia), the hierarchy at United have been impressed by the current Juventus manager’s style of play and would like to seal a deal for him to take over from Louis van Gaal.
However, their opposite numbers at the Bianconeri are reluctant to let go of the 48-year-old manager, because a top-level replacement would be hard to come by. Their best options to replace Allegri should he make the switch to United would be Paulo Sousa or Antonio Conte. The former would be difficult to get hold of, whilst the latter isn’t favoured by Juventus’ president, Andrea Agnelli, despite having managed Juventus before.
He didn’t pick up any silverware as a player, but he has had successes in his managing career. He won the Serie A with AC Milan in 2010-11, then again with Juventus in 2014-15; in that same season, he guided the club to the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italia, as well as finishing as runners-up in the UEFA Champions League.
