Schneiderlin: “We should create more chances”

Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin believes that the Reds are struggling to score goals because opposition teams aim to defend against them.

However, the Frenchman accepts that they have to create more chances in games and admits the criticisms made of Louis van Gaal’s philosophy in recent weeks.

The Dutchman’s side has failed to score in four of the last eight games, leading to concerns from fans and pundits alike that he favours possession over creativity and risk.

But the 26-year-old knows that the Reds have to deliver results and the only way to do that is by scoring goals.

Speaking in United Review, the official matchday programme, Schneiderlin said:

Every team we come up against is putting 10 people behind the ball and defending for their lives. Sometimes, it’s difficult to create and find space but, of course, we should create more chances and do more.

I know there is criticism but we let people do their talking. Our job is to deliver by winning games. I’ve seen teams win the Premier League with good, solid defences and not conceding goals. Football is like that sometimes. But, of course, we need to work on our formation to try to score goals and win games.

Schneiderlin also feels that there is more come from him in terms of performances, after settling into life at Old Trafford:

I had a period of integration into a new side and a new environment, so it was only a matter of time to adapt. Now I’ve done that, I feel good.

Even if I am a little hard on myself, I know I can do better, so there is more to come from me. It happens to every player who signs for a big club, sometimes you need time to adapt and it was the same for me. I will be better and keep improving as the weeks go on.
