King: No bad feelings over United exit

Bournemouth forward Joshua King insists he has no point to prove when the Cherries welcome Manchester United to Dean Court today.

The Norwegian was on United’s books as a youngster but failed to make the grade at Old Trafford after suffering recurring injury problems. He only made two appearances for the Reds and was sent out on loans to Preston, Borussia Monchengladbach, Hull and Blackburn before joining Rovers on a permanent basis in 2013.

Since then, his stock has risen, culminating with a move to the Cherries this summer. The 23-year-old has been an ever-present in the side so far, making 11 appearances in the Premier League.

But King has no ill will towards United ahead of today’s encounter. He said to the Mirror:

I don’t have any feelings towards them. I tried my best to make it and that didn’t happen.

The first team that United had when I was there won the title and the Champions League. You had the likes of Ronaldo, Tevez, Vidic, Rio. It was the best team.

King, who has been capped 19 times by Norway, also believes that the injury problems that he suffered at Old Trafford were worse than he anticipated, but it has shaped him into the player he is today:

I have been injured in every single area of my body. When I signed for United they knew that I was going to grow a lot and have problems like that.

It was worse than we anticipated, but it has made me what I am today. This is probably the longest I have been in a team apart from my first season with Blackburn when I played 16 games in a row.
