Manchester United’s under-21 manager, Warren Joyce, has insisted that Louis van Gaal should give one of his players a run in the senior side.
That player is Nick Powell, the man who has made cameo appearances in each of Manchester United’s last two games; a 3-2 defeat away to Wolfsburg, and a miserable 2-1 defeat at Dean Court, the home of newly-promoted AFC Bournemouth.

Powell came on as a second-half substitute in both of those games, replacing Juan Mata in the former and Marouane Fellaini in the latter. However, he was back in the under-21 setup on Tuesday as Warren Joyce’s side defeated Leicester’s under-21’s by six goals to one.
Powell played up front in that match and was the catalyst for United’s thumping victory – and Joyce believes the youngster gives Louis van Gaal options.
Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Joyce said: “I know he played in midfield when he was younger,”
“He’s a good footballer, he’s got a lot to his game. Good feet, good range of passing, he’s strong, he can head it, he can run and he can score.”
“There’s a lot of things that can be utilised. It depends on the manager’s choice as for him and the things you ask him to do.
Powell’s performance against Leicester’s under-21 outfit could have won him a place in Van Gaal’s side to face Norwich City on Saturday, as the Dutchman continues to wrestle with an injury-hit squad to get the Red Devils back to winning ways.
Jesse Lingard is the latest forward to succumb to injury, and his absence could see Mata return to the right wing with Powell partnering Martial up front; either that, or Martial could play out wide, with Mata remaining in ‘the hole’ – behind Nick Powell.
