Mourinho sacked: United fans react

News broke earlier today that Chelsea had parted ways with their manager, Jose Mourinho – and social media went off like a rocket. Chelsea, who currently sit in 16th place in the Premier League, behind newly-promoted (and injury-hit) Bournemouth, won the Premier League last season – and then capitulated this term.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen that happen is it, United fans? Remember 2013-14? Of course you do. David Moyes took a United side who won the Premier League by a clear eleven-point margin, added Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata to that winning squad, and somehow finished seventh – the first time United had ever finished outside of the top four in the Premier League era.

The current United are themselves on a bad run – goals seem difficult to come by and a draw with top-of-the-table Leicester has just been followed up with a defeat to Bournemouth. The Red Devils have seen happier times, and pressure is mounting on United boss Louis van Gaal, among some groups of fans at least.

With many of these groups wanting Louis van Gaal dismissed, as Mourinho has been by Chelsea, there were varying reactions on Twitter to Jose’s second tenure as Chelsea boss coming to an end.

There are United fans who see it as an opportunity; they want Jose Mourinho to take over from Louis van Gaal immediately:

Even ex-United man Ravel Morrison weighed in…

Some United fans are dead against Mourinho coming in to replace Louis van Gaal:

We held our own Twitter poll to gauge the general consensus in terms of Mourinho’s popularity amongst United fans vs Louis van Gaal’s effect so far – and one of them brought the house down in terms of voting…

At the time of writing, Jose Mourinho had accumulated forty six votes to Louis van Gaal’s eleven.

Could the now ex-Chelsea man take over from the Dutchman in the dugout at Old Trafford? It doesn’t look likely at the moment – but it doesn’t look all too unlikely either. One has to wonder what will become of Louis van Gaal if his United side fail to beat Norwich on Saturday.
