Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been offered a one-year extension to prolong his stay at Old Trafford, according to Football Insider.
Despite the arrivals of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin to shore up the midfield this season, the 34-year-old has remained a crucial component of this United side and has made 23 appearances for the Reds this term.
United manager Louis van Gaal has often rotated between Carrick, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin in the middle of the park during the current season, with Marouane Fellaini getting a look in recently due to injuries sustained by Carrick and Schweinsteiger.

The England international is out of contract at the end of the season, but van Gaal and assistant manager Ryan Giggs have recommended that the midfielder’s contract be extended.
However, Carrick has a number of suitors should he decide against remaining at Old Trafford, with Los Angeles Galaxy and New York Red Bulls ready to take him to America for what should be the final few years of his career.
Barring an ankle injury suffered on international duty with England against Spain in November, Carrick has stayed relatively free of injury troubles this season and has been a solid presence when he has played in the middle of the park.

Carrick, who turns 35 in June, is United’s second-longest serving player in the current first-team squad, with only club captain Wayne Rooney – who joined 12 months before Carrick arrived at Old Trafford in a £18 million move from Tottenham – ahead of him in the longevity stakes.
