David de Gea excels against Italy

The international friendly between Spain and Italy ended in a 1-1 draw last night and similar to much of this season for United, the 10 men in red ahead of David De Gea had him to thank.

He was awarded a start last night as a remake of the Euro 2012 final took place in Udine. However, if it wasn’t for our undisputed number one, Spain may have been on the opposite end of the 4 goal hammering they issued in that final, as he pulled off a number of unbelievable saves – with the best of the lot denying a late Lorenzo Insigne winner.

Despite having another amazing season where he has cemented himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the world, De Gea has found it hard to break into the national side, with Vicente Del Bosque opting to use veteran Iker Casillas instead.

It is only a matter of time until De Gea is the first-choice keeper in his home country; if Spain want to have any chance of retaining their European crown then they will need him between the sticks this summer.
