In a poll run on this site, Manchester United fans named Daley Blind as their man of the match against Everton at Old Trafford yesterday.
Anthony Martial’s goal gave the Reds all three points against Roberto Martinez’s side on the day the South Stand was renamed in honour of Sir Bobby Charlton, but it was Blind’s performance that caught the eye.
Romelu Lukaku was seen as the main dangerman for the Toffees and he looked to exploit Blind’s supposed lack of strength, but the Dutchman was equal to Lukaku’s efforts and shackled the Belgian striker throughout and did not allow him a sniff at goal.

Louis van Gaal has deployed Blind mostly as a centre-back this season, and this display showed why he decided to do so, as the 26-year-old showed the positional nous and distribution that has allowed him to be a consistent presence in the United defence all season long.
Blind was the resounding winner of the poll we conducted, garnering 58% of the vote, while goalscorer Martial took second with 20% of the vote.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah was a surprising third, taking 10% of the vote despite coming on as a half-time substitute for Marcos Rojo and supplying the assist to Martial’s goal.
