Memphis Depay’s contract details leaked

The details of Manchester United winger Memphis Depay’s contract have been revealed on the Football Leaks website.

Memphis hasn’t enjoyed a successful debut campaign in Manchester and, although hope remains that the Dutchman can still fulfill his potential at Old Trafford, the player’s salary seems excessive for a player of his current ability.

The Dutchman is earning £100,000 per week whilst playing for the Reds on a contract which runs until June 30, 2019, although his weekly wage will decrease to £75,000 in any season in which the club fails to qualify for the Champions’ League.

There is also an option to extend Memphis’ contract by an additional year, which, if undertaken, will see the player’s wage increased to approximately £86,000 per week or £115,000 per week if the club qualify for the Champions’ League.

The Dutchman also received a £600,000 signing on fee and earns £20,000 for every first team match he starts and £10,000 for every first team substitute appearance.

Memphis will receive an additional £500,000 loyalty payment should he still be at the club in September 2018, meaning he will have spent three years at United.

Interestingly, Memphis also received a £250,000 bonus in the 20th match which he started. That game was the 5-1 demolition of FC Midtjylland in which the winger put in an incredible performance – perhaps now we know why. He will also earn the same amount after making 40 starting appearances, with the Dutchman currently having played 23 times from the start for United.

There are plenty of rewards on offer for Memphis’ individual performances, too. If he wins the Balon d’Or he will earn £1,000,000, finishing as one of the top three players for the award will yield £500,000, and a nomination for the prize will earn him £100,000.

Bonuses are also on offer for any future inclusion in either of PFA Players’ Player of the Year or the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, although fortunately for United’s financial department, neither of those seem likely to happen this year. The Dutchman will receive £500,000 each time he is selected in the former, and £100,000 each time he appears in the latter.

If that isn’t clear, Memphis is earning a lot of money. All things considered, the Dutchman has already earned approximately £5,250,000 with United so far.
