Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell, who is currently out on loan at Championship front-runners Hull City, has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
According to the Daily Express, the 22-year-old pulled up with a thigh injury during training on Tuesday, just as he was about to make a return from a torn hamstring.
Hull boss Steve Bruce confirmed the injury news, saying that he did not expect Powell to return before the end of the season:
Nick re-injured himself on Tuesday when he was just stepping up his training with us for a second day.
Unfortunately, he pulled a thigh. I don’t think we’ll see him again before the end of the season.
Normally you’re looking at three or four weeks for an injury like this.
Although Hull’s chances of making the Championship play-offs places are extremely high, the ex-United man felt that Powell would not be fit for selection come the end of the season. Powell has only made a total of five appearances for the Tigers during his loan spell at the KC Stadium.
We might be able to see him again and I wouldn’t rule him out totally but it’s going to be difficult given the way he went over.
He just pulled up and when you do that, it’s usually three or four weeks I would have thought.
This could mark the end of a torrid season for Powell, who made two appearances for United before being shipped out on loan by Louis van Gaal. The former England under-21 international’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season and is expected to leave.
