Sunday afternoon’s big game in the Premier League was always going to upset someone. United, one point behind 4th placed Manchester City heading into the game at White Hart Lane, needed to win. Tottenham, ten points behind league leaders Leicester City, needed to win perhaps even more.
The visitors started the game the better, gliding through the gears as they looked for the crucial first goal – but the best chance to open the scoring would go the other way. With the Lily whites piling on the pressure, Erik Lamela managed to miss a chance that anyone would score with their eyes shut and the sides went in level at half time.
The second half was a shambles. It’s as simple as that. Timothy Fosu-Mensah went off injured and United collapsed, conceding THREE goals in five minutes and 46 seconds. Not good enough.
