Four Things We Learned: Crystal Palace 1-2 Manchester United

So, here we are. Manchester United’s season ends on a high and with silverware, after the Reds triumphed over Crystal Palace after extra time in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

United had to work for it though despite being the dominant side for most of the game. Jason Puncheon gave the Eagles the lead with 15 minutes remaining and it seemed that Alan Pardew’s dad dancing would haunt United fans for years to come.

However, Juan Mata equalised almost instantly for United after Wayne Rooney’s barnstorming run, sending the game into extra time. The job would become harder though, with Chris Smalling being sent off for a second yellow towards the end of the first half of extra time.

But the Reds would win out in the end, with Jesse Lingard’s incredible strike midway through the second half of extra time sealed Louis van Gaal’s first (and likely last) trophy for United.

As Rooney and Michael Carrick lifted the trophy in the Royal Box, the curtain came down on United’s season, which has been poor for a large part. Here’s four things we learned from today:
