Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has missed out on Manchester United’s pre-season tour of China due to a groin strain, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Louis van Gaal last season, deputising ably for the injured Luke Shaw and impressing onlookers with his performances at left-back.
He made nine starts for the Reds as well as five substitute appearances throughout the season and won the Under-21 Player of the Year in May for his performances at senior and reserve level. Those achievements were crowned with a new contract just days after José Mourinho took charge at United.

Borthwick-Jackson was expected to go on the pre-season tour as Shaw’s deputy, but the injury is not understood to be serious and he should be back in contention for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial against Everton on August 3 or the Community Shield clash against Leicester City on August 7.
Other omissions from United’s tour squad include Joel Pereira, who has joined up with Portugal for the Olympics in August, while Guillermo Varela, Tyler Blackett and James Wilson have all been overlooked by Mourinho and are expected to find moves away from Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
Anthony Martial, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and Bastian Schweinsteiger are the other absentees, although they are on their holidays after their countries reached the late stages of Euro 2016.
