Manchester United are set to face Borussia Dortmund in a friendly at the Shanghai Stadium in China, only their seventh ever meeting.
The two team have had a few links recently, in the transfer market. Most recently United signed winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Dortmund, their third key player that has left so far this summer. Adnan Januzaj went on loan to the Bundesliga side but didn’t impress.
Shinji Kagawa also made the move to the Red Devils before the start of the 2012/13 season, but after two seasons made the move back. The first transfer between the clubs was for reserve player Jovan Kirovski in 1996.
Surprisingly the two teams have only met six times before this friendly, in three separate rounds of European competitions. The last time came in April 1997, over 19 years ago, while their first meeting came in 1956 when United were managed by the legendary Sir Matt Busby.
