Player Ratings: Manchester United 5 – 2 Galatasaray

Manchester United finished their pre-season tour with a comprehensive 5-2 win over Turkish giants Galatasaray.

United fans were eager to see their new superstar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in action and did not have to wait long to be rewarded. It was only the fourth minute when Antonio Valencia’s cross was converted by the Swede via a stunning scissor-kick.

United controlled proceedings going forward, but Galatasaray grew into the game and equalised in the 22nd minute after a Sneijder free-kick was headed in by Gumus. Gumus was involved again when Bruma played a tidy one-two with him and converted himself to give Galatasaray the lead going into half-time.

The second-half saw five United changes with Fellaini, Carrick, Lingard, Young, Rashford going on for Herrera, Schneiderlin, Mkhitaryan, Martial and Ibrahimovic. United came out flying as ten minutes after the restart Rooney converted Valencia’s cross to bring United level again. United didn’t ease off, two minutes later a superb solo-run from Rashford saw him taken down by Muslera for a penalty in which Rooney converted. United still didn’t let up as another Valencia cross saw Fellaini score an impressive looping header.

Mourinho made six United subs soon after with De Gea, Bailly, Blind, Shaw, Valencia, Rooney going off for Romero, Darmian, Jones, Rojo, Mata and Memphis. It was then another substitute Juan Mata who engaged in brilliant link-up play with Michael Carrick to score United’s fifth and final goal for United.

With Mourinho giving all his players game time and a lot of players wanting to prove themselves, United fans got to see an exciting display from their team two weeks before the start of the Premier League season.
