Wayne Rooney will celebrate his 12 years at Manchester United on Wednesday in his testimonial match against former club Everton.
The Croxteth-born forward signed for United in August 2004 after breaking into is boyhood club’s first team and spending two seasons there.
Now, the two sides will face one another in honour of Rooney’s extraordinary career in the game and his decade-long stay at Old Trafford.
The striker has prepared for the game in style, too, as he netted two goals in United’s most recent pre-season match, a 5-2 win against Galatasaray on Saturday evening.
Everton were also in pre-season action at the weekend, playing two matches in the Dresden Cup, firstly on Friday and again on Saturday.
A mix of first-team and youth players were involved in both, and although the Toffees lost 2-1 to Dynamo Dresden before drawing 1-1 with Real Betis the following day, they are sure to provide a tough test for the Reds on Wednesday.
Ahead of what will be a memorable night for Rooney, let’s take a look on the United captain’s take on a selection of some of the most significant moments of his career – in quotes.
