Middlesbrough interested in Pereira

Middlesbrough are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira on loan, according to the Daily Mail.

The 20-year-old has been told by United manager José Mourinho that he is not in his plans this season and is free to go out on loan to find regular first-team football.

And newly-promoted Boro, managed by Aitor Karanka – Mourinho’s former assistant at Real Madrid – may well be the perfect club for the Brazilian under-23 international to further his claims for first-team football at Old Trafford.

Middlesbrough have spent big this summer in the hopes of consolidating their place in the Premier League this season and Pereira could join the likes of Viktor Fischer and Alvaro Negredo in forming a strong attacking trident at the Riverside.

Pereira, who did not make Brazil’s squad for the Olympics, is understood to want to remain at Carrington to further his development and earn himself a first-team place by impressing Mourinho with his performances in cup matches.

However, the United manager wants the midfielder to experience a full season of football at another club and fight for a place in the United side when he returns to the Theatre of Dreams next season.

Middlesbrough had been interested in taking Pereira on loan last season, having enquired about his availability towards the end of their promotion-winning campaign.

Pereira made 11 appearances last season for the Reds under Louis van Gaal, although he was mostly on the fringes of the first-team and spent more time with the Under-21 squad as they retained their Premier League title.
