Manchester United continued their successful start to the new season by making it three wins out of three against a Hull City team who had also won their last two games despite a summer debacle that occurred behind the scenes.
The first half was a feisty display as the game had an incredibly quick tempo with both United and Hull looking to get forward on every opportunity. United played with a lot of freedom, but were met with an incredibly organised and resolute Hull defence and the best chances of the half fell to Snodgrass whose free-kick fizzed wide of De Gea’s goal and Ibrahimovic who nodded a header over the bar.
In the second half United controlled much more of the game, but Hull were outstanding in their defending and rarely gave away a mistake for United to capitalise on. It was a couple of substitutions from Mourinho that really changed the dynamic of the game as he introduced both Mkhitaryan and Rashford who instantly made an impact.
It looked like Hull were heading for a well deserved point when Wayne Rooney easily beat Elmohamady on the byline and squared it for Marcus Rashford to score his first of the season in dramatic fashion.
Hull were excellent in the game, but United really put in a shift, especially in the second half, to get a well deserved three points. Here are our player ratings:
