United send scouts to Benfica

Manchester United may have had a fantastic summer transfer window, bringing in Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly from some of the finest clubs in Europe – but Jose Mourinho could be looking for more recruits in January, as United scouted players at Benfica on Tuesday.

The Red Devils sent scouts to watch the Portuguese side in their game against Besiktas in the Champions League, according to the Express.

One potential target is teenage sensation Goncalo Guedes, who started up front against the Turkish outfit, but is naturally a winger.

Guedes has played for Portugal at every level since under-15 and made his senior debut for the national team last year. He has made 69 appearances for Benfica B and Benfica’s first team since the start of 2013-14, scoring twelve goals.

Another man United may have been watching is Besiktas captain Oguzhan Ozyakup, who was linked to a move to the Premier League in the most recent summer transfer window.

It will be interesting to see if United continue to send scouts to watch the Eagles – with the Red Devils’ record annual revenue meaning they’ll have no problem affording the brightest talents in Europe.
