Jose vs Pep, part two – United to face City in EFL Cup

José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola will go head to head for the second time this season in October, after a mouthwatering Manchester derby clash was drawn in the EFL Cup fourth round draw.

The match, arguably the pick of the ties drawn, will take place on the week commencing October 24 at Old Trafford and will mark the end of a tough four-game stretch for United, who will make trips to face Liverpool and Chelsea in the Premier League, while hosting Fenerbahce at home in the Europa League.

The first Manchester derby of the season went City’s way earlier this month, with Kevin de Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho giving the Citizens a two-goal lead, before Zlatan Ibrahimovic clawed back the deficit on the stroke of half-time.

Mourinho will be hoping his side can correct the dismal first-half performance that saw them concede two goals that cost them the derby and reverse that defeat against Guardiola’s men in what is again expected to be an entertaining encounter.

City beat Swansea 2-0 to get to this stage of the tournament, while United beat League One highflyers Northampton Town 3-1 to advance to the fourth round of this tournament.

The other big ties of the round include all-Premier League clashes between West Ham and Chelsea, as well as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side facing off against Tottenham at Anfield.

EFL Cup fourth round draw:

West Ham v Chelsea

Manchester United v Manchester City

Arsenal v Reading

Liverpool v Tottenham

Bristol City v Hull

Leeds v Norwich

Newcastle v Preston

Southampton v Sunderland
