It wasn’t an entirely convincing performance from Manchester United, but they kick-started their European campaign with a 1-0 win against Zorya Luhansk at Old Trafford in their second Europa League group game.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 69th minute effort was enough for the Reds to get the three points, after the Swede headed home from Wayne Rooney’s initial scuffed effort on goal.
However, the scoreline did not reflect the entirety of proceedings throughout the encounter, with José Mourinho’s side failing to trouble a dogged Zorya side for large periods of the game. Marcus Rashford came closest to scoring for the Reds in the first half, with his fierce shot cannoning back off the crossbar in what was United’s only real chance of the half.
Fenerbahce beat Feyenoord in the other game in United’s group, meaning that the Reds jump up to third in Group A, level on points with the Dutch side but behind on head-to-head on account of losing to them on the first matchday.
