Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney is now joint top goalscorer for his club and top scorer for his country, after his goal against Reading in the FA Cup.
Rooney, who scored his first goals for United with a Champions League hat-trick on his debut back in 2004, came into the game on Saturday one goal behind Sir Bobby Charlton’s United tally of 249 goals.
He didn’t take long to match it though, flicking the ball past Ali Al-Habsi in the seventh minute of the game.
Here’s how he scored his 249 goals…
- Right foot: 192
- Head: 30
- Left foot: 27
- Inside the box: 213
- Outside the box: 36
- Penalties: 26
- Direct free-kicks: 5
Whilst many will debate Rooney’s career and whether or not he hit the heights he “should” have, it is undeniable that no footballer has ever scored more goals for Manchester United or England than Wayne Mark Rooney.
