This past weekend saw Wayne Rooney cement his legendary status by becoming Unted’s all time leading goal scorer. However, it came in a game where United again only managed a draw, after failing to convert a number of key chances.
Some of United’s main rivals for the top four also dropped points this weekend, so the draw at Stoke isn’t too detrimental to their top four ambitions. It does mean, though, that they passed up the opportunity to move level on points with City in fifth and to within two points of Liverpool and three of Tottenham Hostpur.
Failing to convert chances has been a recurring theme for United this season, and it could prove costly in the long run. United already have the joint highest number of draws (8) out of any team in the league – along with Middlesbrough.

They arguably had the chances to win at least five of those matches – think to the draws against Arsenal, Burnley and Liverpool. This would have given them ten more points and seen them stand at second in the league, four points behind Chelsea.
Despite all of this, United are still only four points off of the top four with sixteen games to go. There is still plenty of football to be played and whilst a push for the title may be out of reach, they are still very much in the race for the top four.
However, if United really want to push on, they need to start converting more of their chances and cut out the frustrating draws.
