Manchester United temporarily rose up to fifth in the Premier League table with a comfortable victory against Watford at Old Trafford.
Anthony Martial came back into José Mourinho’s side and Daley Blind replaced an injured Marcos Rojo from the team that beat Leicester last weekend, and the Reds carried on from where they left off, with some scintillating build-up play in the first half.
And they eventually found the breakthrough against Walter Mazzari’s side after probing for half an hour. Martial received the ball on the left-hand side and proceeded to square it to Juan Mata, who made no mistake from point-blank range.
The second half was more of the same from United and they doubled the lead on the hour mark. Martial received the ball from a Zlatan Ibrahimovic pass, cut in from the left and slotted it past Heurelho Gomes to seal the result and hand United their 2,000th Premier League point.
In truth, United could have won by a bigger margin and only Gomes’ saves and some poor finishing prevented a huge scoreline. Still, Mourinho will be happy with his side’s performance and the Reds temporarily go ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League table.
