Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-1 Bournemouth

Manchester United once again dropped points at Old Trafford against poor opposition, as Bournemouth somehow contrived to snatch a point against the Reds.

However, the match will be overshadowed by the chaotic scenes at the end of the first half and the refereeing performance of Kevin Friend. Cherries defender Tyrone Mings stamped on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s head, which went overlooked, before Ibrahimovic retaliated with an elbow to Mings at the subsequent corner.

It then descended into chaos, as Friend gave Andrew Surman a second booking, but failed to send him off. It took a couple of minutes before the dust cleared and Friend finally sent Surman off after some prompting from the United players.

Earlier, Marcos Rojo had given United the lead, guiding Antonio Valencia’s drilled cross into the bottom corner, before Joshua King levelled for the Cherries after Phil Jones brought down Marc Pugh in the box.

United should have been home and clear though in the first 25 minutes, but Bournemouth keeper Artur Boruc kept them in the game with some fine saves and later denied Ibrahimovic from the spot in the second half.

It’s another two points dropped for United, and Jose Mourinho will not be happy with his side’s profligacy in front of goal. Here are the player ratings from chaotic day at the Theatre of Dreams:
