Manchester United got an important away goal in the first-leg of their last-16 Europa League tie, after drawing 1-1 with FC Rostov.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan returned from injury to give United the lead midway through the first half after good work from Marouane Fellaini.
However, United again failed to hold onto their lead and conceded a well-worked equaliser early on in the second half.
The state of the pitch was the main topic of discussion prior to the game. There were doubts over whether United would be able to adapt to the playing conditions and fears it could cause potential injuries. But United adapted well, playing a 3-5-2 formation and adopting a more direct style of play.
Although United didn’t get the victory, Mourinho will be relatively pleased with the away goal, and confident that United can finish the job in the return leg next week.
Mourinho will also be pleased that his team come away from this game without any injuries.
