Manchester United looked to have done the business in their away tie against Anderlecht in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final, but the hosts came up with a late equaliser to make the return leg at Old Trafford next week a bit more interesting.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored United’s goal with the Red Devils in control of the game, when Marcus Rashford’s excellent volley was expertly saved by Ruben in the Anderlecht goal, only for the Armenian wizard to slot home the rebound.
1-0 up and fairly comfortable, United looked to be heading back to Manchester with a vital away goal and a solid clean sheet – before Leander Dendoncker drilled a header past Sergio Romero with just four minutes left on the clock.
It was another case of United not being able to kill a game off, despite playing well – and the second leg promises to be a cracker now.
