The Manchester Derby ended goalless, as ten-man United hung on to a point against a City side after Marouane Fellaini got sent off six minutes before full-time.

In what was billed as a top-four decider, José Mourinho went for a vibrant, quick attacking trio at the Etihad Stadium, as Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial all started for the Reds.

And although Sergio Aguero hit the post for the Citizens in the first half, Ander Herrera could have arguably given United the lead at the end of it, heading wide at the far post after being teed up by a wonderful free-kick from Rashford.

However, United lost the edge somewhat in the second half, as Pep Guardiola turned the screw up and dominated possession as well as shots for the second period. And with six minutes remaining, the task was about to get harder for Mourinho’s men.

Fellaini got himself sent off, headbutting Aguero moments after being booked for hauling down the Argentine striker. Although you could say that the fall was theatrical, the Belgian wasn’t smart to walk into that exchange.

There was late drama to come, with substitute Gabriel Jesus’ effort being ruled out for offside, but United hung on for a point which keeps them in control of their top four fate.
