After much speculation, Nemanja Matic is officially a Manchester United player.
The 6’4″ Serbian has been linked with a move to United for some time now, and although rumours persisted before his signing that he would instead move to Juventus, he did indeed make the switch to Old Trafford.
He is a player Jose Mourinho knows well — the pair won the league together at Chelsea in 2014-15.
Playing alongside N’Golo Kante in midfield last season, he once again won the league with Chelsea, whilst United struggled to fully utilise the talents of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba further up the field, as both had defensive duties on their shoulders.
The arrival of Matic should ease such pressures on the pair and it is widely expected that Pogba in particular will be a great beneficiary of Matic’s move to the club, with the Frenchman able to operate much further forward, knowing that Matic will be playing in behind him.
There’s a lot we already know about Matic, but these facts in particular are very interesting…
