Manchester United got their Premier League season off to a flying start, putting in a vintage performance to beat West Ham 4-0 at Old Trafford.
Slaven Bilic’s men had no answer for United’s attacking firepower, as José Mourinho side put in a purposeful performance that would put them top of the Premier League at the end of the day’s proceedings.
United made several changes from the side that lost to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup – Phil Jones and Eric Bailly came back into the side after missing out in midweek due to suspension, while Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford also fond their way into the starting eleven.
And United took the lead midway through the first half in typical style – a swift counter-attack saw Rashford play Romelu Lukaku through and the Belgian finished in emphatic fashion off the left-hand post.
Lukaku doubled his tally early in the second half, shrugging off his markers to head home from Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s free-kick. With United dominating proceedings, substitute Anthony Martial added the third with three minutes left, coolly slotting past Joe Hart after being played through on goal.
And Paul Pogba put the icing on the cake for the Reds, placing the ball beyond Hart with injury time beckoning, sending United top of Premier League after a dramatic opening week of football.
