Three Manchester United players have been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for August.
Phil Jones, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku have been nominated for the award, alongside Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah and Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl.

In 2016-17, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the only United player to pick up the award as he was named Premier League Player of the Month for December 2016.
Now, a player from United, defence, attack and midfield are up for the first award of this season after the Red Devils’ impressive start to 2017-18.

United won three out of three Premier League games in August, meaning they are currently top of the table — and the only team with a 100 per cent record in the competition.
Phil Jones’ nomination comes in large part down to his immense contribution to United’s three successive clean sheets in the league in August; the Red Devils are yet to concede a goal this season and 25-year-old Jones has put in three admirable performances towards this.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is something of a magician, proven by the fact that he already has a remarkable five assists in the league this season, despite arguably not playing to the absolute best of his ability — and if he can carry this form on, he may well break the record for most assists in a single Premier League season.
Romelu Lukaku has enjoyed a fantastic start to his Manchester United career, scoring twice on opening weekend against West Ham before finding the back of the net again against Swansea a week later. However, his missed penalty against Leicester last time out may prevent him from coming away with the Player of the Month award — although its insignificance to the result could be a saving grace for the Belgian.

United players have cumulatively won 34 Player of the Month awards in the Premier League, with the first being Paul Ince in October 1994.
