Five Things We Learned: Everton (H)

Manchester United continued their fine start to the Premier League season with a 4-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

The headlines before the match were dominated by the return of Wayne Rooney, but by the end of it, the Reds were celebrating a comfortable victory, with the Toffees sunk by a wonder strike from Antonio Valencia and a late flurry of goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku and substitute Anthony Martial.

However, the scoreline may have flattered United, who looking under pressure for some stretches of the second half, as Everton came forward in search of a equaliser. Despite that, José Mourinho’s side stayed firm at the back, soaked up the pressure and when the chances came in the final ten minutes, they were clinical in front of goal and ran away with the encounter.

The pace of United on the counter was just too much for Ronald Koeman’s side to handle, and the Reds’ attacking superiority told – after all, Everton sold United their finest attacking asset in Lukaku, and he chipped in with a goal and an assist.
