Man United Player Ratings: Burton Albion (H)

Manchester United eased into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Championship side Burton Albion at Old Trafford.

José Mourinho made wholesale changes to the side that beat Everton at the weekend, with Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford the only Reds keeping their places. But Nigel Clough’s side also made several changes to their regular side, and that would cost them dearly.

It took only five minutes for the Reds to break the deadlock, with Rashford coolly slotting past Connor Ripley after some lovely work from Jesse Lingard in the build-up. It was 2-0 on 17 minutes, with Rashford blasting home his second of the night from just outside the area.

United’s third came with ten minutes to half-time, Lingard’s shot deflected home after Anthony Martial had run rings around the Burton defence. The Frenchman was excellent tonight and would have his deserved goal in the second half, slotting home after a lovely exchange between him and Rashford.

The game meandered to a conclusion afterwards, but Burton got their consolation with the final kick of the game, Lloyd Dyer firing past substitute keeper Joel Pereira after an error in judgement from the young Portuguese.
