United fans warned to behave in Russia or face harsh prison

Manchester United fans have been warned that trouble-making in Russia will land them in harsh prisons with unpleasant living conditions, ahead of their Champions League Group A match against CSKA Moscow.

Coming via the Telegraph, Vladimir Markin who is the head of the Russian Football Union’s security committee, has made a statement forewarning travelling United fans to maintain a low profile in the Russian capital.

Liverpool will be in Moscow to play Spartak on Tuesday night so their fans could well be in the city when United face CSKA on Wednesday — but UEFA haven’t seen this as a potential issue.

Markin said:

I don’t want to scare anyone but I warn those who plan to come here not to support their side and see the country but to commit hooliganism: the law is the same for all, not just for Russians

Those who break it will face a suitable punishment, possibly in the form of a long stay in Russia, in conditions our guests won’t like.

With hooliganism well-profiled at Euro 2016 last summer and Russian fans playing a massive part in it, both United and Liverpool have addressed their fans and advised that they do not wear club colours in what could be a potentially dangerous city to have loud or colourful opinions on football in midweek.
