Manchester United and Liverpool played out a wholly forgettable goalless draw at Anfield, which will probably leave José Mourinho the happier manager.
United brought in Chris Smalling for Eric Bailly, who had suffered a knock during the international break with the Ivory Coast, while Ashley Young was preferred to Juan Mata on the right side of midfield and Anthony Martial got a long overdue start.
But the Reds did not look at the races today and looked content to play for the draw, sitting deep and absorbing the Liverpool attack, which in all fairness, was pretty toothless as well.
The only real chance that both sides had came in the latter stages of the first half; Joel Matip being denied by a fantastic save by David de Gea, before Romelu Lukaku burst through and had his shot palmed away by Simon Mignolet.
The second half was more of a non-event than the first, and United fans will probably be content to come away with a point after what can be termed a disappointing performance after their flying start to the season.
