Sometimes teams have to make their own luck, and that was certainly the case on Wednesday night as a goalkeeping error handed Manchester United a 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League.
Belgian teenager Mile Svilar became the youngest goalkeeper in Champions League history on Wednesday night, and was consoled by Manchester United players at full-time after accidentally carrying Marcus Rashford’s free-kick over the line to give United a 1-0 win.
Svilar was visibly devastated by his error but it’s clear to see that he’s a promising young player with a good future and it’s fair to say that the game against United will be something he learns from.
The result kept United at the top of their group, with three wins from three games — and cemented Benfica to the bottom, having lost all three of their fixtures so far.
