Manchester United are second in the Premier League and top of their Champions League group as we head towards what is always a frantic, unpredictable festive period — but there is still plenty of time to pick up points ahead of the upcoming fixture congestion.
United’s next port of call in the Premier League is Stamford Bridge, with manager Jose Mourinho and central midfielder Nemanja Matic both returning to face their former club, after winning league titles with the Blues.
Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku are two more United players who could line up against their former side on Sunday.
Chelsea are four points behind United heading into the game so Sunday’s fixture can be looked at as a six-pointer in the title race, as United could end the weekend seven points ahead of the Blues, or Antonio Conte’s side could close the gap considerably and wind up just a single point behind the Red Devils.
United currently have six players in the injury room, but Mourinho will be hoping that that number will be reduced ahead of the big game.
