Man Utd fear that top target Griezmann will join Barcelona

Premier League side Manchester United are afraid that their top transfer target Antoine Griezmann turn down a move to England and instead will join Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona, according to a report on the Independent.

United were in pole position to secure his signature last summer but the move broke down due to Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban, which meant that if the Frenchman left the club then they would have been unable to replace him.

However, interest from the Red Devils has cooled ever since and it seems Barcelona have taken their opportunity to lead the line for his services.

The Catalan club want to reshape their squad and believe that Griezmann would be the perfect addition to their attacking department.

With experience of the La Liga as well as the UEFA Champions League, the 26-year-old will have a tough choice to make.

United aren’t desperate to sign Griezmann and manager Jose Mourinho has other possible targets ready if the move for the French forward collapses.

Griezmann signed a contract extension at Atletico last summer which means that his value will be higher, with the club reportedly demanding over £100m to start negotiating.

Mourinho is eager to strengthen his squad in January and has been linked with a move for a few forwards already this month.
