The group which France will be taking to Russia was announced on Thursday and there were a number of surprise exclusions.
United’s Martial was named on an 11-man standby list, meaning he still has a chance of making the final squad if the current crop are unfortunate with injuries.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba does make the squad, along with Olivier Giroud and N’Golo Kante of Chelsea. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspurs’ Hugo Lloris and Manchester City’s left-back Benjamin Mendy have also been included.
Martial has been in and out of the team this season and is linked with a possible move away from Old Trafford this summer, as he grows increasingly frustrated with the lack of game time at United.
