Jose Mourinho is ready to sell Eric Bailly this summer and replace him with Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, reports the Independent.
Bailly has seemingly been frozen out at Manchester United. He has started five games since February, with Mourinho claiming that is down to giving others the chance to go to the World Cup.
The Ivorian is United’s only centre-back who hasn’t seen his country qualify for the tournament in Russia, but that now seems like it is being used as an excuse for an overlying reason.
Many believe he is the best defender at Old Trafford. Mourinho spent over £30 million on him in the summer of 2016.
But now he is ready to let Bailly leave the club if reports are to be believed. It is rumoured the manager is annoyed with the number of injury problems he has, with the final straw being when he was ill for the game against West Brom.
The 24-year-old turned up for training the next day saying he was fine again, and now Mourinho is willing to receive offers for him.
Alderweireld is the man linked to replace Bailly. He has been Tottenham’s standout defender over the past few years and is wanting a better contract to stay with the London club.
