United target Fred reveals ambitions to play for ‘major clubs in Europe’

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred has announced that he will ‘look at his options’ following the World Cup, amidst rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.

Metro report that United have been tracking the central midfielder for months and are willing to pay the £53m release clause in the Brazil international’s contract.

However, the Red Devils have been put off by comments made by the 25-year-old suggesting that he will not make any decisions until the World Cup is finished.

In an interview with SporTV, he said:

Now I just have to wait to get through the World Cup and see which is the best destination.

I think I have to change a little. I have dreams of playing in major clubs in Europe. I made it clear that it’s my moment. As soon as I come back from the World Cup we will sit down, talk and look at the options.

Maurizio Lagana/Getty Images SportManchester City reportedly attempted to sign the player in January, but have now turned their attention to Jorginho of Napoli. PSG have also been linked with Fred.

The Brazilian moved to Donetsk from Internacional in a deal worth €15m in 2013 and has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for the club.

United manager Jose Mourinho could do with midfield reinforcements, with Michael Carrick retiring and doubts surfacing over the respective futures of Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini.
